RAD RACE Tour De Espana 2015
Granada - Fondon
161,3km - 3.203 meters of altitude.
THE STRAVA TRACK IS HERE.
A night in the old town of Granada. Beautiful but to be honest quite strange after spending 3 days in the nature. The moment we hit Granada the air changed. The smell, the sounds, the taste of a bigger city is just something that you don’t miss. Looking for parking, no bird sounds or waves when you wake up. We just all felt a night in a hostel can’t compare with a night out in the woods in our lovely Heimplanet tents.
Anyways… after we had a wonderful breakfast in an old school cafe in Granada we kicked off stage 3. A stage with more than 3.000 meters of altitude and again more than 160k to ride not more than 14hrs later after we finished the heaviest stage of our Tour De Espana. The thing was: it rained. It rained!!! So the pace started much slower than on the 2 stages before. And it didn’t stop. It didn’t stop until we cycled a very very very big climb. A climb right through the heart of the Sierra Nevada.
We thought the Sierra Nevada would be dry and boring but of course Spain tought us otherwise. It was cliche Andalusia. Green green green with olives lying on the street. Still it took us a while until we could see the beauty of it since we were just fully covered in fog. Sometimes you couldn’t see more than 5 meters in front of you.
But as we rode on top of this mountain - the climb was more than 30(!) kilometers long - we were just in the clouds. On top of the clouds. Just an unreal feeling. It wasn’t raining but the street was wet anyways. Cloudy wet. Dangerous sloppy. Sketchy…
And again cycling showed us that it’s just so much cooler to work for something good instead of just getting it for free. While we were sitting in the sun with 16 friends it was so much better to have worked for it than just getting there by car. And we thought it’s a lot like having started RAD RACE. It’s 2 years now that we’re trying to start a small company and it’s been great but it’s such hard work. But without RAD RACE we wouldn’t be here with 16 awesome people, most of them we know through organizing races. We just love it!
Throughout stage 3 it became clear that the group grows together a lot. The teamgeist is building up and everyone acclimatizes better and every single one is getting stronger what helps us a lot to get through the pain of almost 10.000 meters of altitude climbed in 3 days.
After we climbed that mountain we were just killing it on the way down. A descent almost 25k long with a top speed up to 85km/h. What can we say… Lightspeed!!!
The only thing that sucked today: Chris slipped and his bike crashed and most likely it will not roll again (the „Schaltauge“ broke and we don’t have a spare one…) But he’s fine and will ride again since there will be people who will for sure take a break within the next 6 stages. Now we’re lying under some trees in our Heimplanet tents and everyone is just happy to be here. Thanks for following us!
The kids all ride.
