Last man standing & last woman standing
THE EVENT RECAP
This time of the year, when the RAD RACE events starting again, the first and maybe the most thrilling event in the cycling world takes place in Berlin: the one and only RAD RACE Last wo/man standing. Same procedure as every year: fast and technical racing on a GoKart track. Every time with a crazy crowd: loud and enthusiastic cheering.
It’s the second year on the new track and with all the lessons learned from the past years, the course was prepped for all the talented racers with technical skills. The starting list predicted head-to- head races all day long.
With 144 boys and 18 girls in the first rounds, the elimination kicked more than the half of the riders out of the race in the qualifying. But there is no other race in the world where this fact isn’t more irrelevant because being kicked out means front row at the after show party!
The mens quarter finals promised hard fought battles as a lot of hard hitters made it to the next level rounds of this years last man standing. Last years winner Mattia Zoli and his OG gang of italian afterparty Supernova stars, Alec Briggs the crit machine, David van Eerd, Simon Mateju from Defekt Crew and Jonas Fischer from the CANYON RAD PACK all names to watch when it comes to flying around the corners.
At this point of the race we are super happy that we had the opportunity to provide a super sweet livestream for all the people who didn’t make it to Berlin in collaboration with GCN (Global Cycling Network) showing live coverage to more than 150.000 people around the world. The guys from GCN sent James Savile Lowsley-Williams who was crazy enough to hit the course and compete against all the great names of fixed gear racing. Only the creme de la creme made it to the finals of the boys and girls race. The crowd was going crazy and cheered every rider even they just have been kicked out. Absolute breath taking atmosphere!
In the mens race all eyes on Jonas Fischer from CANYON RAD PACK because of his domination in all the runs before. There was a hard battle for every place from the gun and the competition of Jonas with Alec and Augusto Reati pushed it to a very new level. Because of bad luck and a crash of Jonas he was kicked out and it was up to the rest to keep the fight for the 2019 Last Man Standing amongst themselves.
Last round it was one of the most fascinating battles between Alec and Augusto from Supernova Bicycles with the happy ending for Augusto who made his comeback winning again after last years elimination in the quarter finals.
The girls finale was also a hard fought one. With last years winner Karla Sommer, Tamika Hingst from the GRL PCK, Margaux Vigie from Team Look Criterium, Francisca Campos and Sabina Ossyra there were some super fast girls who showed impressive riding in the past. In the last round it was up to Margaux and Karla to decide who is going to be last woman standing and it was Margaux who made it to the first place this time after her stupid crash last year. Another glorious comeback!
All the work and passion we put in this event, the crazy crowd, the riders going full gas, the true sportsmanship and the love you shared with us is the best payback we could imagine. We hope to come back next year and have one hell of a time again!
