canyon x rad race battle
THE EVENT RECAP
Toe to toe - wheel to wheel
For the 4th time, we traveled down to the home of Canyon to host our famous sprint battles as part of the Pure Cycling Festival in Koblenz. The weather was something else, we had rain, hail, sun, and snow but 88 riders showing no mercy, geared up and rolled towards the start line. As the rain refused to stop, riders had to do standing starts just in front of our time trial ramp as it was just too wet.
We had riders from all sorts of disciplines roll up to the starting blocks like Pro MTB Rider Thomas LeMoine to local bike messengers racing on work/street fixed gears.
During the heats, RAD PACKs Jonas Fischer was doing really well showing his dominance on his Canyon V-RAD but in round 16 he decided to gear up from 49x17 to 49x16 which in hindsight was a critical mistake for the 200 meter track. His component, Julius Sauer from Crossfit Coblenz went on to the quarter finals but was stopped in his tracks by Tyrin Kirby who was on the day, the fastest man racing on a track bike!
In the women's heats, Team Vagisan were unstoppable! We had Zoë Mulder racing on here MTB as she proved this is a 'spin to win' race, crushing fixed gear riders and road bike riders alike as she headed straight to the number one spot, while her teammate, Maaike Brandwagt came in second place
Although the weather wasn’t the best conditions the crowd toughed out the cold and the riders went full gas, We can’t wait for the next Sprint Battles!
