Reliable road bike rental options in Japan are limited, and many locally available bikes come with a different brake setup than most European riders are used to. In Japan, road bikes are often configured “moto style”, meaning the front and rear brake levers are switched. For a multi stage ride on public roads, we see this as a serious safety concern.

That’s why we strongly recommend bringing your own bike whenever possible.
